Over 10 years ago, when I was a freshman in high school, I took Geometry. I never gave great thought then why it was important.
I took Geometry, because well, it was the next class after Algebra and before I was able to advance to other math classes such as Algebra 2/Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus Honors, and AP Calculus.
All I remembered from that class was that it involved proofs. It was unlike other math classes I’ve taken.
I’ve googled to find out what people were saying. I read through responses on quora.com.
One response was from Jim Rogers, who is has a BA in Mathematics and Teaching said, “This class, more than any other HS math class, requires students to explicitly engage higher-level problem solving and reasoning skills.”
I agree. In Geometry, I had to support my reasoning with proofs. Although life is not black and white and sometimes there is not one definite answer like there is in math, in every day life, I sometimes run into issues and have to troubleshoot them.
