I felt uneasy and didn’t get a lot of sleep last night. Even so, there were a few simple things that provided me comfort and security.
To provide you context, early this morning, I was awaken by unfamiliar voices who asked if there was anyone in the house. I was puzzled by how these people got in the house and what was the reason for this visit.
The doorknob was the first thing to provide me with comfort and security. Because I didn’t recognize the voices, my first instinct was to not trust the strangers and locked the door. The locked doorknob allowed me to maintain a barrier between the strangers and me.
These strangers were insistent. They knocked on doors and opened doors that were not locked.
I later learned they were from the local police department, and they were just making sure the robber was still not here and all who were at home were safe.
The voice of familiarity was the second thing to provide me with comfort and security. I didn’t open the door until after they talked to the second roommate, because for all I know, it might’ve been a ploy to get us out of our rooms.
