First the $1.99 restaurant, next the 99 Cents Store, and now the Dollar Tree.

Growing up, I liked going to the $1.99 restaurant and the 99 Cents Store, because I liked that I can splurge and get my money’s worth for not much.

Now that the prices have gone up, I do not dine at the $1.99 restaurant anymore. Though I still shop at the 99 cents store, because there are still some items that are 99 cents (or 99.99 cents to be exact), I prefer Dollar Tree, because I know at least everything is $1.

That changed when I went to the Dollar Tree this past weekend. I found out each item now cost $1.25.

What did I expect? With the increase cost of labor and living, stores like Dollar Tree cannot continue to run if they continue to keep the prices low.

It is just 25 cents more though, right? Yes, but the extra 25 cents means a 25% increase. I’ll be paying an extra $1 for every 4 items.

In the future, I’ll probably be re-evaluating if it’s worth shop at the Dollar Tree and get an item for $1.25. For example, for a box of mac and cheese, it will better if I get at the grocery store. When on sale at the grocery store, the box of mac and cheese is at least a quarter less and probably has a longer shelf life.
