There was salad, muffins, mac and cheese, and chicken noodle soup!
I loved eating at Souplantation. I’ve eaten there since my teen years. I remember going there in the afternoon with my mom for a late lunch and eating lots of muffins and chicken noodle soups. I would be so filled up and skipped dinner.
I looked forward to my trips to Souplantation. The food was healthy and fresh. The chicken noodle soup didn’t take like it came straight from the can. I would garnish it with chopped green onions. I didn’t get tired of Souplantation. It was unlike the Hometown Buffet or Chinese Restaurants I grew up eating, because I didn’t feel I was clogging my arteries with red meat and fried food.
On May 2020, when I learned of the closure of all Sweet Tomatoes / Souplantation restaurants, I was devastated. That was one of the restaurants I was looking forward to eat at once the CDC and officials say it is safe to go out again.
I know I am not alone missing and thinking Souplantation is special. There is a petition on change.org to bring back Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes. Currently, 22,737 people have signed it.
Souplantation was more than just about the healthy and fresh food to me. It was part of my childhood that I will forever miss — the mini ice cream cones, the countless muffins I’ve tried over the years, and who can forget the chicken soup? It was a popular soup. There was always a line for it.
