Would Life be Better if Love or Other Emotions Did Not Exist?

I recently watched the movie My Future Boyfriend. Pax, from the year 3127, finds a book and does not know what love is. That led me to wonder if life would be better if love or other emotions did not exist.

Pax tried getting the definition of the word “love,” but access to that word is forbidden. This led Pax to wonder why.

On one hand, we have Bob, who is also from the year 3127, who dismiss it as “dangerous” and explains to Pax that ancient legends have it that this “love” condition was some kind of “virus,” which made people act strange and in illogical ways, bordering in some extreme cases obsessive dementia. It is thought to be one of the root causes for suffering in the world.

I can see it from Bob’s perspective how emotions such as love can be destructive. It can cloud our judgement and not act in a logical way. However, I wouldn’t consider love a “virus.” It does not have the potential to kill like the virus that has been around since 2020.

On the other hand, we have Elizabeth, the author of the book, from the year 2011, who explains to Pax that love is something that happens when you meet someone that you feel deeply connected to. It’s not a product of anything intentional, but rather something outside yourself that you can’t fight, that was meant to be…
