Am I Cheap or Fiscally Responsible?

After reading Alex Reid’s “Thrill of Frugality” story, that got me thinking if I am cheap.

In life, I do not think we will ever be content. We will want things and have to decide whether or not to pay for a product or service.

Someone who is cheap by definition is stingy or unwilling to give or spend.

Am I cheap if I’m unwilling to spend when the item cost more? After learning Dollar Tree no longer sells items for $1, whenever I shopped there, I have to stop and think if what I am buying is still worth it. Even if it’s a quarter more, it does add up.

I consider myself fiscally responsible rather than cheap, because I often think before I spend.

When I am at the store, I compare similar products and determine if there’s extra value with the more expensive product.

I recently got my eyes checked. Since my prescription changed, I needed new lenses. This means I needed a frame for the lenses.

If I was cheap, I would be unwilling to pay for another frame and re-use the frame I had on.

I would lie if I said that thought did not cross my mind, but I also thought about the benefits of just selecting a new frame from the optometry. At that time, the optometry was offering a $50 bonus discount on top of my insurance…
